Kuna sits at the southern edge of Ada County, where suburbs give way to open rangeland that runs toward the Snake River and the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area. Housing is a mix of newer subdivisions, an older town center, manufactured homes and rural acreage with wells and septic systems. Kuna's location means more wind, more exposure to rangeland fire and smoke, and longer distances for some rural properties.
Inside city limits, rebuild permits go through the City of Kuna. Rural properties go through Ada County Development Services. Septic repairs are permitted through Central District Health. If a well was exposed to floodwater or ash, test the water before drinking it. Before hiring, check the contractor's registration with the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL).
Wind damage is usually covered, but water that gets in afterward is often only covered if it came through an opening the wind created. Photograph the roof or window damage from the ground and keep receipts for tarps or boards. Manufactured homes are often insured under a separate type of policy with different terms, so check your declarations page for wind, water and smoke coverage.
Requests come from Kuna's town center, newer subdivisions to the north toward Meridian, and rural properties to the south and west.
A good share of Kuna-area housing is manufactured homes and homes on acreage. Manufactured homes have plumbing that runs under the floor inside a belly wrap, so a leak can fill the wrap with water and soak the insulation and floor decking before anything shows inside. If you see the belly sagging or hear dripping under the home, shut off the water and do not cut the wrap open with power still on to nearby heat tape. On acreage, shops and barns often have their own water lines and frost-free hydrants that can break in a hard freeze. The water from those breaks can flow back toward the house foundation. Note every structure that was affected when you call your insurer, since shops and barns are usually covered under a separate "other structures" limit.
